Bangkok Protests - Leave to Thailand next week - Safe outside city center? Safe to travel to Koh Samui?

For the last two days the BTS and subway are not running, traffic can be a nightmare, who knows what's going to happen next here, a curfew maybe. Why the hell even come to Bangkok, just change your plans and try to fly the same day to Koh Samui or spend a night at one of the hotels near the airport which is some 40 km outside of Bangkok and the next day fly to Koh Samui.
